Sebastiaan Lunsingh Scheurleer

Sebastiaan

Electric & acoustic guitar

Sebastiaan Scheurleer started playing the guitar at an early age, but his real passion for the instrument arose during his first encounter with the guitar violence of Jimi Hendrix. After hearing ‘’Voodoo Chile’’ (at Woodstock ‘69), the obligatory practice of boring songs just before the classical guitar lesson was over. He had to get an electric guitar as soon as possible to improvise with for hours and to select as much rock, blues and pop music as possible. In the legendary guitar shop “De Plug’’ where the first ‘’surf-green’’ telecaster was selected, he was advised to take lessons with musical all-rounder Patrick Sedoc.
Sedoc introduced him to jazz, fusion, funk and soul and stimulated him to develop his playing style, hearing and technique to a level that led him unscathed through the nerve-racking auditions for the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
The Bachelor and Master programs (jazz guitar) that followed gave him the opportunity to learn from a large number of top musicians from home and abroad, including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein, Branford Marsalis and Jesse van Ruller.
The musical development described above has had a strong influence on his way of teaching. Students play music that appeals to them and are encouraged to be creative with their instrument.
Sebastiaan Scheurleer played on various stages, festivals and radio/television shows in Europe, including Heineken Music Hall, North Sea Jazz festival and Pauw & Witteman. He shared the stage with Yuri Honing, Saskia Laroo and Karsu Dӧnmez, among others.
